Eco-Friendly Renovations

How to save money while making easy updates to your home this summer!

It’s summer in the scorching desert and if you are like us, you are doing anything you can to stay cool. We understand how hard this heat hits your wallet when it comes to keeping your home cool while you are escaping the desert heat. We have a few tips for easy eco-friendly renovations you can do in your home in time to save money for the rest of the summer.

Update Your Thermostats

The latest smart thermostats can do so much now! Between updating the schedule from your mobile phone to learning your habits and adjusting to them, you will love how easy and helpful smart thermostats are. What we like the most about them is that they actually save you money! You can set them to “eco” mode so they run on a more eco-friendly schedule. Did you leave for vacation and forgot to change your thermostat’s schedule before you left? With a smart thermostat you can change it from anywhere. Trust us, this is one of the easiest updates you can make to your home with one of the greatest impacts on your day-to-day life. New Appliances

We have mentioned this one before but we cannot overstate the benefits that new appliances have. Most new kitchen appliances are now energy star rated so it won’t be hard to select one that is going to run more efficiently and save you money. Don’t know which appliance to switch out? Start with the refrigerator! Did you know they are one of the biggest energy hogs in your home? If they are energy star certified, they use 40% less energy than the standard refrigerator. Let’s not overlook how stunning some of the latest refrigerator models are!

Windows

Some of the older homes in Arizona were built with single pane windows. We don’t have to tell you how hot it gets here in the summer months so double pane windows are a MUST. When you are switching out to double pane windows make sure you are getting an air tight model. This way none of that hot desert air sneaks into your home. You can also consider blackout window/solar screens. They will add that extra protection to your windows from the sun heating up anything indoors.

These are just a few ways you can make eco-friendly changes in your home that not only make your day-to-day life more comfortable but lightens up your wallet as well! As always, if you need some guidance on any home remodel, call Alan.
